The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Review

This took a long while to see as well, but today I was blessed in getting the house all to myself, sit down and enjoy it. I have to start off by saying, I think I enjoyed this far better than the entire trilogy of “Lord of the Rings”. Even the music seemed more appealing to me; and I cannot wait to see the second film. Which will be coming up shortly. And as soon as I see that one, I will give a review for it as well. I am terribly sad though, that I was not able to see this one in theaters. How lovely this one would have been. I saw all of LOTR in theaters, but was unable to make it there in time to see this one.

The cinematography was just gorgeous as usual and the CGI blended beautifully. This cast was awesome too. And I have to admit I think I have a slight crush on Thorin. But his costume, poor thing, it looks devastatingly hot to wear. While it is an awesome piece, I would have hated to have to wear it all through filming.

The camaraderie between all the dwarfs was wonderful. The actors had such good chemistry with each other and it made the characters very believable. I like the feeling of family between them. I also feel a great sadness for them, having that they have been cast from their beautiful and peaceful home. Yet, deep within their hearts they hold on to hope, hope of returning to whence they came and reclaiming what is rightfully theirs. I have never read the book and I vaguely remember the cartoon feature film from my childhood, so I have no idea if their quest will be successful; who will die and who will survive. With the exceptions of Gandolf and Bilbo of course. Still it will be a great adventure to see the following films and I cannot wait.

If it is possible you have yet to see this film, I urge you to watch it. There is much action and lots of laughs. Stunning scenery and a matching score. The acting was terrific and I cannot image any other actor playing Bilbo. Martin Freeman is perfect as this lovely and courageous Hobbit.

I love love love An Unexpected Journey. Saw it severl times in the movie theatre and, just like you, I prefer it to the whole LotR-trilogy.
Though I was a bit disappointed with The Desolation of Smaug - it is a very good movie, and I recommend you to watch it, but I´ve readThe Hobbit several times, and it´s just not...it´s not The Hobbit anymore. I liked it, and I would rewatch it, just that one point bugger me. Oh well.

But yes, the first Hobbit movie - ah, I link so many good memories to this film. I mean, I have a group of friends and we all link so many mutual good memories to this movie we ended up calling ourselves The Fellowship of the Moria Cupcake (which involves me making cupcakes for all of us). I sat down and typed a whole guide on How To Be Majestic with a friend after watching this as reference to Kili and Fili and how Kili tries to be as majestic as uncle Thorin. It´s here on dA. I´ll link it to you if you wanna read it. It´s hilarious.

You see, I could ramble on, hehe.
